Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for Professionals: Preventing Depressive and Anxiety Relapse
This 2 day workshop will examine how thinking may exacerbate Depression and Anxiety. The intention of this program is to enhance skills in Mindfulness Practices and Cognitive Strategies as they relate to Clinical Settings. In addition, participants will learn skills they can apply to their own stressors. This workshop teaches physicians and others to use this therapy, introducing them to modes of mind that often characterize changes in mood and anxiety levels while teaching a new relationship to these modes. Mindfulness is a non-judgmental way of paying attention in the present moment. It may reduce emotional reactivity and negative thinking, increasing choice about how to respond to difficult situations. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy examines the content and process of negative thoughts, challenging and restructuring them to enhance healthy functioning.

Core Practices in Mindfulness Based Interventions for Professionals: Mentoring Group
Mindfulness Based Interventions feature practices to help patients develop skills in disengaging from automatic reactions and behaviours, ground themselves when distressed, develop the ability to be present but not identified with immediate experience and heighten self-compassion. At times, the link between specific mindfulness practices and the development of these skills may seem vague to both patients and instructors. This experiential mentoring group will explore this link in commonly taught practices: the Body Scan, Sitting Meditation, 3 Minute Breathing Space and Mindful Movement. Participants will both guide and inquire into the experiences these practices engender as a way of learning for themselves how to best offer them in clinical practice. This is a wonderful opportunity to work with Zindel Segal.
